- Bio
Chris Segal is a recent graduate of Pepperdine University, where he studied journalism. During school, Segal focused on learning all aspects of the business of journalism, from working in the press room at the Orange County Register to overseeing editorial-advertising relationships as the director of strategic planning for The Graphic, Pepperdine's student newspaper. Segal spent a semester as The Graphic's editor-in-chief, overseeing a staff of more than 20 journalists as they produced a 22- 28-page weekly newspaper, which was named third-best in the country by the Associated Collegiate Press. After working as a traditional print journalist and in a prestigious internship with the Institute for Humane Studies, a Libertarian think-tank based in Washington, D.C., he turned his attention to multimedia. He then led The Graphic's push to incorporate online video and continuous story updating on its Web site. This experience led to an opportunity to work as a digital content producer for the Ventura County (Calif.) Star, where he filmed, edited and posted video elements for print stories, including footage of the 2007 Malibu wildfires. He hopes to learn more about broadcast news when he joins WPEC-12 television in West Palm Beach, Fla., as an intern after Poynter. He also will continue working in print and online journalism.
